Development of Automated Tool for Electrode Array Insertion and its Study on Intracochlear Pressure

This study introduced an automated device for inserting cochlear implant electrode arrays to minimize damage during surgery. The device utilizes a roller mechanism actuated by a servomotor to gently advance the electrode array. Testing on a model cochlea revealed that insertion speed impacts the pressure exerted. At 0.15 mm/s, a peak pressure of 133 Pa is recorded, posing a low risk to inner ear structures. The device shows promise for safer cochlear implantation surgery.
