This historic cohort study investigates associations between systemic drugs and the incidence of diabetic macular oedema (DME) in 150,353 individuals with diabetes. Notable findings include a lower DME risk in females, while hormone replacement therapy, temazepam, and allopurinol were associated with reduced risk. Conversely, insulin, sulfonylureas, and certain antihypertensive medications were linked to an increased DME risk.
