Diagnostic Marker for Posterior Staphylomas: Optical Coherence Tomography Analysis

The study explores a new diagnostic marker for posterior staphylomas, focusing on the radius of steepest curvature on the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) segmentation line using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Through a retrospective cross-sectional analysis involving prototype software, 268 eyes were examined. Results indicate a distinct difference in curvature among eyes with and without posterior staphyloma. A macular curvature (MC) index of 40 (radius 8.44 mm) serves as a potential reference for distinguishing between these conditions, with significant correlations observed with age and axial length in highly myopic eyes.
