Dietary Inflammatory Index Linked to Increased Risk of Bacterial Vaginosis

A study investigated the association between dietary inflammatory index and plant-based dietary indices with bacterial vaginosis (BV) among 143 BV patients and 151 healthy individuals aged 15-45 years. Elevated dietary inflammatory index scores were significantly linked to higher BV odds, with an odds ratio (OR) of 2.88 (95% CI: 1.57-5.30, P < 0.001) in the crude model and 3.52 (95% CI: 1.66-7.46, P = 0.001) after adjusting for confounders. While the total and healthy plant-based dietary indices showed no significant relationship with BV, an unhealthy plant-based dietary index was positively associated with BV (adjusted OR: 2.13, 95% CI: 1.09-4.15, P = 0.018). These findings suggest a correlation between dietary inflammation, unhealthy plant-based diets, and increased BV risk.
