Digital vs. Conventional Implant Impressions in Edentulous Jaws

Digital vs. Conventional Implant Impressions in Edentulous Jaws

The study compared the accuracy of implant abutment-level digital impressions using stereophotogrammetry and conventional open-tray splint techniques in edentulous jaws. In vitro models of all-on-4 and all-on-6 setups were used. Distance deviations were 145 ± 196 μm for the digital group (PG) and 96 ± 150 μm for the conventional group (CNV), showing a significant difference (P < 0.001). Angle deviations were 0.82 ± 0.88° for PG and 0.74 ± 0.62° for CNV, with no significant difference (P = 0.267). Correlation analysis showed the distance between implants and the distribution angle influenced the accuracy of digital impressions but had minimal impact on traditional impressions. The CNV method was closer to the real value of the original model.
