Directorate General of Health Services Calls for Stringent Antibiotic Dispensation Guidelines

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has urgently appealed to pharmacist associations in India to adhere strictly to the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 1945. The Director General of Health Services emphasized the need for antibiotics to be dispensed only on the prescription of a qualified doctor. The appeal aims to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a global public health threat causing millions of deaths annually. With limited new antibiotics in development, promoting judicious use becomes crucial to delay resistance. The DGHS urges all pharmacist associations to support efforts to reduce the emergence of AMR.
