The Indian Society of Gastroenterology has issued guidelines recommending the rational use of Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs). It strongly discourages using PPIs in children below one year of age due to potential risks and a lack of evidence supporting their efficacy in this age group. The guidelines also advise against the routine co-prescription of PPIs with antibiotics, except for Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy, to avoid the risk of Clostridiodes difficile infection-related diarrhoea.
