Distinct Inflammatory Milieu in Patients With Right Heart Failure

New study sheds light on the link between right heart failure (RHF) and liver dysfunction. Researchers examine the inflammatory milieu in RHF patients, finding elevated levels of certain cytokines/chemokines/growth factors. Soluble CD163 and CXCL12 emerge as novel biomarkers associated with patient outcomes. Single-cell RNA sequencing and tissue imaging indicate liver-derived expression of these factors by Kupffer cells. Understanding the influence of these molecules on heart failure phenotypes may pave the way for improved management of RHF patients. Study highlights the importance of the cardio hepatic axis in RHF and suggests potential therapeutic targets.
