
The study investigated insulin resistance's impact on consummatory reward-induced brain activity using functional MRI in three groups: metabolically healthy lean, metabolically healthy obese, and metabolically unhealthy obese (MUO). MUO, suspected of central insulin resistance, showed primarily negative brain activity, potentially influencing food cravings. Following weight loss intervention, the MUO group's brain activity increased, though distinct from other groups. Findings suggest insulin resistance and obesity contribute to abnormal taste responses in the brain's dorsal striatum, hindering weight loss efforts.
