
A groundbreaking study explored the efficacy of high-flow nasal cannula therapy (HFNT) in alleviating persistent dyspnoea, a pressing public health concern with limited treatment options. The study include thirty-two healthy subjects who underwent experimental dyspnoea induction, receiving HFNT with alternating oxygen levels (100% and 21%). Results demonstrated significant reductions in both sensory and affective dyspnoea components with HFNT, regardless of oxygen concentration. Furthermore, HFNT did not significantly impact heart rate but reduced transcutaneous CO2 pressure and skin galvanometry. These findings signify promising prospects for dyspnoea management.
