The survey assessed physician preferences for using novel digital devices to diagnose atrial fibrillation (AF) in clinical practice. Among 505 respondents from 30 countries, including electrophysiologists, cardiologists, and general practitioners, experience with ECG-based devices was significantly higher among electrophysiologists (92% vs. 68%, p < 0.001). PPG-based devices were rarely used for AF diagnosis (8.2%–9.8%), with both groups favoring ECG to confirm PPG tracings suggestive of AF. Diagnostic approaches to AF varied by clinical scenario, with electrophysiologists preferring intermittent single-lead ECG monitoring over traditional Holter ECGs. These findings highlight the growing integration of ECG-based digital tools in clinical workflows and underscore the need for greater education on the diagnostic potential of novel digital technologies.
