Comparison of Extended Depth of Focus and Multifocal Intraocular Lenses: A Clinical Study

The study found that at 3 months post-implantation, patients receiving extended depth of focus (EDOF) and multifocal (Multi) intraocular lenses (IOLs) demonstrated non-inferior uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) compared to monofocal IOLs (P > 0.05). Notably, both EDOF and Multi IOLs achieved superior uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) (P < 0.001). The EDOF group exhibited better uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA), while the Multi and Mono groups yielded comparable results. However, comfortable near-distance visual acuity (CNDVA) was significantly lower than UNVA across all groups, particularly in EDOF and Multi IOL recipients (P < 0.05). Overall, EDOF and Multi IOLs effectively enhanced patients’ near visual comfort and clarity, although one patient in the multi-group experienced severe fatigue, impairing tolerance.

Nasal polyposis and earlier age at asthma onset were independently associated with treatment response, while obesity and total IgE levels were not independently associated with response. The findings support phenotype-oriented approaches to biologic selection and personalized asthma management.

Higher total and recreational screen time were associated with increased odds of suspected developmental delays, particularly receptive language and gross motor delays. Educational and communication-based screen time were associated with lower odds of delays in selected developmental domains. The findings highlight the importance of limiting recreational screen exposure and encouraging age-appropriate, interactive digital activities.

However, differences in assessment protocols, muscle sites, and sarcopenia definitions prevented pooled analysis. Standardization and further validation are required before routine clinical use.
