The study investigated the impact of body weight on the response to nasal corticosteroid treatment for allergic rhinitis. Two groups, one obese and one normal weight, showed no significant differences in nasal endoscopy, inspiratory flow, or various questionnaires and cytokine levels before treatment. Both groups exhibited improvement in symptoms and physiology post-treatment, but obese patients displayed an impaired anti-inflammatory response, particularly in interleukin-10 levels. Despite comparable clinical responses, the study suggests that obesity may affect the anti-inflammatory aspects of nasal corticosteroid treatment in allergic rhinitis, highlighting potential complexities in the relationship between weight and treatment outcomes.
