An enhanced nursing strategy has shown promising results in improving outcomes for immunosuppressed patients with pneumonia and sepsis. Researchers enrolled 1019 patients with low lymphocyte counts (<1000 cells/mm3) and divided them into control and treatment groups. The treatment group received the improved nursing strategy, resulting in significantly fewer days on mechanical ventilation (5 vs 5 days) and lower ICU mortality (21.1% vs. 28.8%) and 28-day mortality (22.2% vs. 29.8%) compared to the control group. The treatment group also experienced a shorter ICU stay (9 vs. 11 days). This strategy acted as an independent protective factor against 28-day mortality.
