The study aimed to compare the impact of individual counseling between one provider and one client versus group counseling between one provider and multiple clients on the adoption of postpartum contraception. A prospective cohort of women attending postpartum clinics at two hospitals in Accra, Ghana, was recruited between April and November 2017. The study found that among the 982 women surveyed, the uptake of contraception was significantly higher among those who received one-to-one counseling (51.0%) compared to those who received group counseling (12.6%). Factors such as age, marital status, and previous contraceptive use also influenced the uptake of contraception during the postpartum period. The findings suggest that individual counseling is more effective in promoting postpartum contraception uptake than group counseling.
