Effect of weight-adjusted intermediate-dose versus fixed-dose prophylactic anticoagulation with low-molecular-weight heparin on venous thromboembolism among noncritically and critically ill patients with COVID-19

Effect of weight-adjusted intermediate-dose versus fixed-dose prophylactic anticoagulation with low-molecular-weight heparin on venous thromboembolism among noncritically and critically ill patients with COVID-19

The study investigated the impact of weight-adjusted intermediate-dose anticoagulation on the risk of venous thromboembolism in COVID-19 patients. A total of 1,000 hospitalized patients were randomly assigned to receive either weight-adjusted intermediate-dose or fixed-dose low-molecular-weight heparin. The study found that the occurrence of symptomatic venous thromboembolism was similar between the two groups. However, the weight-adjusted dose group showed a higher risk of major or clinically relevant nonmajor bleeding. The trial did not demonstrate a significant difference in venous thromboembolism risk between the two treatment regimens.
