Effects of a mitochondrial-targeted ubiquinol on vascular function and exercise capacity in chronic kidney disease

A groundbreaking study has revealed that MitoQ, a mitochondria-targeted ubiquinol, could be a game-changer in the fight against chronic kidney disease (CKD). In a randomized controlled trial involving 18 CKD patients, a 4-week MitoQ supplementation (20 mg/day) demonstrated significant improvements. The results indicate enhanced macrovascular and microvascular function and stabilized arterial hemodynamics. MitoQ's positive effects on microvascular function may be attributed to its ability to reduce NADPH oxidase contribution. This breakthrough paves the way for future research on mitochondria-targeted therapies for CKD.
