In this study published in the World Journal of Diabetes in 2023, the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and insulin resistance (IR) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was investigated. The study involved 162 T2DM patients and explored risk factors for IR and the effects of vitamin D supplementation on glucose and lipid metabolism. The results showed significant differences in various parameters, including 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25(OH)D3) levels, glucose, and lipid metabolism, between the insulin-resistant and non-insulin-resistant groups. Logistic regression analysis identified 25(OH)D3 as an independent risk factor for IR. Moreover, vitamin D supplementation was found to improve glucose and lipid metabolism, with more significant effects observed in the joint treatment group compared to the conventional group.
