In a recent Meta-Analysis, Mesenchymal Stem Cells Show Promise in Acute Ischemic Stroke Treatment. A systematic review of 9 randomized controlled studies involving 316 patients reveals that mesenchymal stem cell transplantation significantly reduces NIH Stroke Scale scores [SMD=-0.99, 95% CI (-1.93, -0.05)]. While improvements in Barthel index and Modified Rankin score were not statistically significant, the treatment demonstrated a safe profile with no significant increase in adverse events [RR=0.68, 95% CI (0.40, 1.17)]. The findings suggest mesenchymal stem cells could be a viable option for alleviating neurological deficits in acute ischemic stroke patients.
