A study evaluated the efficacy and safety of sotagliflozin, a dual inhibitor of sodium-glucose co-transporters 1 and 2, in adults with type 2 diabetes and stage 3 chronic kidney disease. The results showed that at 26 weeks, the placebo-adjusted mean change in HbA1c was -0.1% in the sotagliflozin 200 mg group and -0.2% in the sotagliflozin 400 mg group, with significant reductions in fasting plasma glucose and body weight observed. The urine albumin-creatinine ratio was reduced with both sotagliflozin doses relative to placebo in patients with at least A2 albuminuria at week 26, but changes were not sustained at week 52. Adverse events were similar between the treatment groups. The safety findings were consistent with previous reports.
