Efficacy of Adjuvant Therapy in Early-Stage Cervical Cancer Post-Surgery: A Comparative Study

In a study involving 403 early-stage cervical cancer patients without high-risk factors, researchers compared postoperative concurrent radiochemotherapy (CCRT) with radiotherapy (RT) alone. Patients were categorized into intermediate-risk and low-risk groups. Results showed no significant difference in 5-year overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) rates between CCRT and RT groups in both risk categories. However, CCRT patients experienced higher rates of grade ≥ 3 acute hematological toxicities compared to RT patients. The study suggests that for this patient population, CCRT doesn't offer superior outcomes to RT alone and is associated with increased acute toxicities.
