Efficacy of flossing and mouth rinsing regimens on plaque and gingivitis: a randomized clinical trial

A recent study investigating oral hygiene practices revealed that combining essential oil (EO) mouthrinses, both non-alcohol and alcohol-containing, with manual toothbrushing and flossing significantly reduces interproximal plaque, gingivitis, and bleeding compared to brushing alone. After 12 weeks, groups using these combinations demonstrated superior results, emphasizing the efficacy of incorporating EO mouthrinses in oral hygiene routines. The findings suggest that dental professionals should recommend EO non-alcohol mouthrinses to enhance plaque control and prevent gingivitis, promoting better oral health maintenance post-dental prophylaxis.
