In 2019, a cefazolin shortage increased demand for cefotiam and cefmetazole, prompting the use of fosfomycin for perioperative prophylaxis. The retrospective study compared fosfomycin and cefotiam in preventing infections post-ureterorenoscopy in 182 patients from January 2018 to March 2021. Propensity score matching accounted for age, sex, and other factors. Both groups (69 each) showed no significant differences in age, surgery duration, or preoperative metrics. Fosfomycin resulted in lower postoperative C-reactive protein and white blood cell counts, with similar complication rates to cefotiam.

An experimental triple antibiotic paste containing nitrofurantoin, ciprofloxacin, and metronidazole showed better cytocompatibility than conventional Hoshino antibiotic pastes and calcium hydroxide in human dental pulp stem cells. The paste maintained about 75% metabolic activity and better preserved cell viability, supporting further investigation as a medicament for regenerative endodontic procedures.

As a single-arm study, the findings are descriptive and require controlled confirmation.
