The MULTIBENZ trial compares the parasitological efficacy and safety of three benznidazole regimens in adult patients with chronic Chagas disease. The results showed sustained parasitological negativity in 54%, 61%, and 58% of the control, low-dose, and short-treatment groups, respectively, with no significant differences. Adverse events were observed in 76% of participants, but discontinuations were less frequent in the short treatment group. The study suggests that a shorter treatment duration might offer similar efficacy, improved adherence, and increased treatment coverage, warranting confirmation in a phase 3 trial.
