
Research highlights the significant role of nocturnal intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation in glaucoma progression. Studies show that peak IOP often occurs at night, contributing to optic nerve damage through reduced ocular perfusion pressure and disrupted axonal transport. While daytime IOP management may appear stable, nighttime elevations can drive disease progression, compounded by existing vascular dysregulation and decreased nocturnal blood pressure. Current treatment options often underperform in lowering nighttime IOP, emphasizing the need for noninvasive interventions that effectively target nocturnal IOP to better manage glaucoma progression and protect vision.
