In a recent study, researchers investigated survival predictors for pulmonary hypertension (PH), a serious lung condition. Analyzing data from PH patients, they used a network medicine approach to categorize patients based on 79 variables. Pulmonary arterial compliance (PAC), a measure of artery elasticity, emerged as a key factor linked to improved survival. Patients with PAC of 3.0 ml/mm Hg or higher exhibited lower all-cause mortality rates. This finding was consistent in both the discovery and validation cohorts, especially in those with precapillary PH. The study suggests that targeting PAC above 3.0 ml/mm Hg could be a valuable strategy to enhance survival in PH patients.
