The study evaluated the potential effect of a food supplement, containing probiotics, prebiotics, vitamin D, zinc, and selenium, in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. The intervention group receiving the food supplement showed good predictive ability for recovery based on ROC curve analysis. Additionally, the intervention group had a shorter duration of digestive symptoms and shorter hospital stays in patients with normal-mild-moderate chest X-ray findings compared to the control group. The food supplement was a protective factor in patients with severe COVID-19 and may contribute to early recovery, and shorter hospital stays in specific patient groups.
