Emotional Regulation in Pregnancy Dreams

Dream characteristics during pregnancy, particularly nightmares and lucid dreams, were influenced by depressive symptoms and alexithymia, highlighting their role in emotional regulation. Among 118 first-trimester pregnant women assessed using the Mannheim Dream Questionnaire, the Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20, and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, regression analyses revealed that depressive symptoms predicted nightmare and lucid dream frequency, while alexithymia amplified nightmare distress. Moderation analysis showed depressive symptoms led to increased nightmare frequency in women with high alexithymia levels. Nightmare distress was linked to unplanned pregnancies, underscoring its emotional impact.
