Enhanced Detection of Interproximal Lesions via SWIR and CP-OCT Imaging

This study demonstrates that short wavelength infrared (SWIR) imaging methods, including cross polarization optical coherence tomography (CP-OCT), surpass traditional radiography in detecting interproximal lesions in posterior teeth. Involving 30 participants, the research showed that CP-OCT and SWIR reflectance provided significantly higher sensitivity and lesion contrast. The findings suggest that SWIR imaging, particularly CP-OCT, could become a superior diagnostic tool for identifying and assessing the severity of dental decay.
