The study determines whether a cream containing ceramides, triglycerides and cholesterol in a multivesicular emulsion can reinforce the skin barrier and protect against skin irritation. A randomized observer‐blind intrapatient‐controlled study was conducted in 34 adults with dry, eczema‐prone skin. Each participant underwent 4 weeks of treatment with the test cream on one forearm and lower leg and a reference emollient cream. Skin sensitivity to sodium lauryl sulfate was reduced (−0·5 points visual redness, 97·57% CI −1·00 to −0·25), as was transepidermal water loss (−15·3 g m−2 h−1, 95% CI −20·3 to −10·4) compared with the reference. The test cream facilitates skin barrier restoration and protects the skin from dryness and irritation. Compared with a commonly prescribed emollient in the UK, the test cream is highly suited to managing dry, sensitive skin.

PEDIATRICS

A retrospective study of 33 women with postpartum hemorrhage during cesarean delivery found that uterine compression sutures achieved hemostasis in 69.7% of cases. Additional treatment was required in 30.3%, including embolization or emergency hysterectomy. Suspected placenta accreta spectrum was significantly more common among women needing escalation (60.0% vs. 8.7%; p=0.004).

ICS–SABA reduced asthma exacerbations and corticosteroid use without increasing adverse events in a five-RCT meta-analysis.

A meta-analysis of five randomized controlled trials found that as-needed ICS–SABA significantly reduced asthma exacerbations compared with SABA-only reliever therapy. ICS–SABA lowered exacerbation rates and the risk of experiencing at least one exacerbation by 31%, while extending time to first exacerbation and reducing systemic corticosteroid exposure by about 39 mg, without increasing adverse events.

An exploratory study found that the teach-back method, supported by multimodal communication strategies, improved understanding during a simulated informed-consent process among people with aphasia. Cataract was the leading cause, followed by trauma-related ocular disease, glaucoma, and corneal opacity.
