Eosinophil peroxidase (EPX) levels were investigated in patients with eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) to determine its potential as a biomarker. The study included 28 subjects undergoing sinonasal surgery, and their ethmoid tissue was analyzed for EPX levels, cytokines, and chemokines. EPX was found to be elevated in patients with CRS with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) compared to controls, as well as in eosinophilic CRS (eCRS) compared to non-eosinophilic CRS (neCRS). EPX also correlated with IL-5 levels. The study suggests that EPX could serve as a biomarker for tissue eosinophilia in CRS patients, irrespective of their polyp status, and may be useful in anti-IL-5 therapies
