A recent study has shown that the intradermal administration of the modified vaccinia Ankara vaccine (MVA-BN) is a safe and effective way to combat the mpox outbreak that occurred in 2022. The study showed that the intradermal administration of the vaccine is as effective as subcutaneous administration while avoiding unacceptable local reactions. The study also demonstrated that the median durations of erythema and induration were shorter in the intradermal-administration group than in the subcutaneous-administration group. The vaccine was authorized by the FDA and permitted by the European Medicines Agency based on data from this study.
