Etiologies, Mechanisms, Management, and Outcomes of Electrical Storm

Electrical Storm (ES) poses a serious medical threat, defined by multiple sustained ventricular tachyarrhythmia episodes within a limited time frame or incessant ventricular tachyarrhythmia exceeding 12 hours. For patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD), it means three or more appropriate device therapies occurring within 24 hours. ES's severity depends on the number of episodes, duration, type, and ventricular function. A recent narrative review analyzed studies from 1999 to 2023, exploring ES mechanisms, genetics, and treatment strategies. It compared pharmacological and invasive approaches to reduce ES recurrence, morbidity, and mortality.
