A nationwide cohort study examined the association between GOLD group A0, A1, B0, B1, and E patients with future exacerbations, hospitalizations, and mortality. The 45,350 patients showed increased risks for moderate exacerbations, hospitalizations, and mortality from A0 to A1, B0, B1, and E. Group B1 had a significantly higher hazard ratio for future exacerbation (2.56), all-cause and respiratory hospitalization (1.28 and 1.44, respectively). Findings suggest risk stratification based on past exacerbations informs preventive strategies for COPD treatment recommendations.
