Examining Hemodynamic and Metabolic Profiles in Aortic Stenosis Patients with Preserved Ejection Fraction

A recent study examined the similarities between degenerative aortic valve stenosis with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (ASpEF) and heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (HFpEF). The study enrolled 148 HFpEF patients, 150 patients with moderate-to-severe ASpEF, and 66 healthy controls. The study revealed striking similarities in demographic profiles and physiological responses during exercise between HFpEF and ASpEF groups. Both groups exhibited impaired functional capacity, with lower peak oxygen consumption and cardiac output. ASpEF patients displayed extravalvular abnormalities, suggesting potential implications for disease progression post-valve intervention.
