Excess Bleeding Risk in Venous Thromboembolism Treatment Analyzed

This study assessed the excess bleeding risk during initial and extended anticoagulant treatment for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in 36,115 VTE cases and matched controls. During initial treatment, 1.07% of VTE patients bled, with females and the elderly at higher risk. During extended treatment (6 months to 5 years), bleeding risk was lower and not influenced by age or sex, with no significant differences.
