Exercise Therapy More Effective for Shorter Duration Knee OA Symptoms

A study investigated the impact of symptom duration on the effectiveness of exercise therapy versus non-exercise interventions for knee osteoarthritis. Analyzing data from 1,767 participants across 10 RCTs, it was found that those with symptoms lasting less than 1-2 years experienced greater improvements in pain and physical function from exercise therapy. Significant benefits were observed in both short-term and long-term outcomes for these individuals, suggesting a critical period for targeting therapeutic exercise.
