A group of 19 experts from Asia has published their consensus on the potential of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scans in reducing lung cancer fatalities. At the recent World Conference on Lung Cancer in Singapore, experts advocated transitioning from conventional chest X-rays to advanced LDCT procedures. LDCT employs low-dose rays and computer technology to detect lung abnormalities, including tumors. A preliminary study involving smokers detected lung nodules in 93% of participants. This consensus, backed by the Lung Ambition Alliance, calls for the integration of smoking cessation programs with lung cancer screening initiatives.
