Exploring Cochlear Lateral Wall Changes and Endolymphatic Hydrops in Otitis Media

This study investigates cochlear changes in acute and chronic otitis media, correlating them with endolymphatic hydrops (EH). Researchers analyzed cochlear lateral wall structures and EH severity using chinchilla models and human temporal bones. They found significant stria vascularis reductions in chronic otitis media, correlating with increased EH severity. The chinchilla model mirrored human findings, suggesting its relevance for future studies.
