
The study aimed to analyze the impact of different components of exudative age-related macular degeneration (eAMD) lesions on retinal sensitivity during anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) treatment. A total of 24 patients were enrolled in a 2-year study receiving bevacizumab treatment for eAMD. Various assessments, including visual acuity, angiographies, autofluorescence images, microperimetries, and optical coherence tomographies (OCTs), were performed. Lesion components such as retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) atrophy, macular neovascularizations (MNVs), intraretinal cysts, subretinal tissue (SRT), and hemorrhage were identified and measured. The results showed that RPE atrophy, areas of hemorrhage, MNVs, intraretinal cysts, and SRT were the most significant predictors of retinal sensitivity loss during the treatment. RPE elevation and neuroepithelial detachment (NED) had lesser effects.
