Factors Affecting Postoperative Ileus in Abdominal Surgery Patients

The study evaluated postoperative ileus (POI) incidence and associated factors in patients undergoing major abdominal surgeries in Northwest Ethiopia. The incidence of POI was 16.27%. Significant risk factors included age over 60, low BMI, and intestinal surgery. Females had a decreased likelihood of developing POI. These findings are comparable to global reports, highlighting key factors for clinicians to consider.
