Factors Affecting the Reduction Quality of Open Reduction Internal Fixation of Mandibular Subcondylar Fractures

This retrospective cohort study explores factors influencing outcomes in open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) of mandibular subcondylar fractures (MSF). Analyzing data from 38 MSF cases, the study identifies fixation scheme as a significant factor affecting the quality of bony reduction. Notably, using single-straight miniplates is associated with moderate discrepancies, while double-straight, rhomboid, or ladder miniplates lead to favorable reductions without malocclusion. The findings provide valuable insights for optimizing ORIF decisions in MSF, emphasizing the impact of fixation choices on achieving anatomically favorable outcomes.
