The study aimed to determine the occurrence of a complete atrioventricular block (CAVB) in first-, second-, and third-degree relatives of affected individuals using the Swedish multigeneration register linked to the Swedish nationwide patient register. The study population consisted of 6,113,761 individuals and showed that the risk of CAVB among relatives of affected individuals depends on relationship degree, being strongest in young siblings. The familial association extending to third-degree relatives indicates the presence of genetic components in the cause of CAVB. CAVB was also found to be associated with traditional cardiovascular comorbidities.
