Familial α-synucleinopathy spectrum features in patients with psychiatric REM sleep behaviour disorder

A study found that patients with rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) occurring in the context of psychiatric disorders (psy-RBD) are more likely to have a family history of α-synucleinopathy, a group of neurodegenerative disorders that includes Parkinson's disease. This suggests that psy-RBD may not be a benign epiphenomenon of antidepressant treatment, but may instead be an early sign of an underlying neurodegenerative disorder.
