In a retrospective observational study conducted between September 2014 and September 2021 at a provincial key clinical speciality, the feasibility and safety of peripherally inserted central catheterization (PICC) via external jugular vein (EJV) approach without general anaesthesia (GA) for paediatric patients with challenging access were explored. Out of 290 EJV line placement attempts, 261 were analyzed. The success rates for anatomical localization, punctures, and catheterization were 100%, 100%, and 90.04%, respectively. Notably, the success rate for children under one year was 93.75%. The median line duration was 19 days, with a 13 cm median catheter insertion length. Common complications included catheter malposition (n=20) and dislodgement (n=7).
