The study examined fetal femur development in fetal growth restriction (FGR) cases by analyzing femur morphometrics and distal epimetaphyseal features on prenatal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). It included 111 fetuses with FGR associated with placental insufficiency and 111 GA-matched normal controls. The results showed that cases with FGR exhibited diaphyseal and epiphyseal shortening of the femur, but FGR cases and normal controls shared similarly graded distal epimetaphyseal features. The study concludes that these features may not be appropriate MRI characteristics for identifying FGR.
