This comparative, cross-sectional study aimed to explore the relationship between maternal obesity and fetal glycated albumin (GA) levels in pregnant women. The research involved 59 normoglycemic pregnant women with obesity and 58 nonobese normoglycemic pregnant controls. Blood samples were collected from mothers and umbilical cords at delivery for serum GA analysis. The study found that newborns of obese women had 3.21 times higher odds of elevated GA compared to nonobese women. Additionally, the newborns of nonobese women had higher 5-minute APGAR scores. A significant correlation was observed between maternal and neonatal GA. These findings indicate that maternal obesity is linked to increased fetal GA and lower 5-minute APGAR scores in normoglycemic women.
