A recent study that evaluated the impact of image reconstruction methods on Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scans has yielded promising results. The findings demonstrated that iterative reconstruction (IR) significantly reduced image noise compared to filtered back projection (FBP) across all acquisition parameters. This noise reduction ranged from 29.7% (5 × 5 cm FOV) to 58.1% (5mA). Notably, IR achieved this noise reduction without substantially increasing processing time, with an average additional processing time of only 35.1 seconds. These results significantly impact CBCT imaging, as adopting IR techniques can enhance image quality and diagnostic accuracy without compromising efficiency.
