In a concerning development, Japan is grappling with a surge in influenza cases, reaching the highest warning levels in a decade. Approximately 5,000 medical institutions reported 166,690 flu cases, surpassing the critical threshold of 30 cases per facility. The National Institute of Infectious Diseases estimated a nationwide total of around 1,118,000 patients in a week. With COVID-19 cases also rising, experts urge caution, fearing a dual spread during year-end gatherings. The Ministry of Health emphasizes preventive measures, aligning with COVID-19 protocols, including vaccination, mask-wearing, and avoiding crowded spaces.
