The researchers provided a summary of right ventricular systolic function assessment with cardiac ultrasonography. They note that while the shortening of the right ventricular free wall along the longitudinal plane can be used as a substitute for TAPSE, there is uncertainty regarding how to classify values in the gray zone of 1.5 to 2.0 cm as normal or abnormal. Therefore, they suggest that normal right ventricular systolic function should meet specific echocardiographic criteria, including a TAPSE of at least 17 mm and an S' velocity of at least 9.5 cm.
